Installation
Athena Package Installation Quick Steps:


  • System Requirements
    • For Windows

    • 1. Windows XP Server 2000, 2003, 2007, 2008.
      2. Admin Privileges to install Athena setup.


    • For Linux

    • 1. Admin Privileges to install Athena setup.


  • Download Installation package

  • 1. Go to Athena Exam page and click on Download page link.

    2. On clicking takes you to the download page.

    3. To download the windows installation package click on Click here link.

    4. Save the file locally.

    5. Unzip (Extract Here) the package in the local drive.

    6. Make sure that the extracted file name is devsquare and should contain all the files shown below.


Up to here you have downloaded the Installation Package successfully and unzipped in the local drive, In the next steps we will show you how to install and configuring the required supporting software’s.


  • Configuring Java
    • Java already installed

    • 1. Copy the installed jdk path. ( Assume your path is C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0)

      2. Edit \devsquare\misc\js\tomcat6new_service.bat file.

      3. Replace e:/devsquare/jdk/jdk1.6 to C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0 in tomcat6new_service.bat and save it.


    • Java not installed

    • 1. If Java not installed in the computer please install JDK 1.6 or above.

      2. Click here to know how to download and install Java.

      3. During installation change the destination path to "\devsquare\jdk" and install.

      4. Make sure that Java is installed in the specified directory.

  • MySQL Installation.

  • 1. Go to devsquare folder and open >> utilities >> mysql-5.0.51b_setup. ( Eg:“D:\devsquare\utilities\mysql-5.0.51b_setup” )

    2. Double click on Setup.exe file.
    3. Click on Next.
    4. Select Custom and click Next.
    5. Click on Change .
    6. Point the folder name to “devsquare\mysql5\” and enter.
    7. Click ok button.
    8. Make sure that the path is same as you given in previous step.
    9. Click on Install.

    10. Click on Next.
    11. Click on Next.
    12. Click on Finish.
    13. Click on Next.
    14. Click on Next.
    15.Select the Dedicated MySQL Server Machine
    16. Click on Next.
    17. Click on Next.
    18. Click on Next.
    19. Click on Next.
    20. Click on Next.
    21. Click on Next.
    22. Click on Next.
    23. Set root password and click Next.
    24. Click on Execute.
    25. Click on Finish.


On completion of above steps MySQL is successfully installed in your machine.


  • MySQL Workbench Installation.

  • MySQL Workbench is a unified visual tool for databases, used for Visualizing and managing the data in the databases.

    a). Download the MySQL workbench from MySQL website Or click here to download.

    b). Install the software in the local machine.

    c). Click here for Installation Guide.

    d). To access MySQL Workbench.

    Windows Start >> All Programs >> MySQL >> MySQL Workbench 5.2 C E.


  • SetUp MySQL tables.

  • 1). Windows Start >> All Programs >> MySQL >> MySQL Server 5.0 >> MySQL Command Line Client.

    2). Login with root password.

    3).Grant full privileges for the root and used database.

    mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON database_name.* TO 'DEV_MYSQL_DB_SYSTEM_USER'@'machine_name' IDENTIFIED BY 'DEV_MYSQL_DB_SYSTEM_PASSWORD'

    4). Create a Database datasource.

    mysql> create database datasource;

    5). Load tables into the database form the provided sql file at (devsquare\utilities\database\datasource.sql)

    Syntax: mysql -u user –p database name < path of datasource.sql file

    cmd: mysql -u root -p datasource < d:\devsquare\utilities\database\datasource.sql.
    6).Run cmd:


      mysql> use databasename;

      mysql> show tables;



    7).Make sure that all tables were created.

  • Configuring server.xml

  • 1. Edit server.xml at (\devsquare\tomcat6\conf)

    2. Change the drive paths according to your devsquare path.

    3. Save the server.xml file.

  • Configuring Tomcat

  • 1. Go to devsquare\misc\js and edit tomcat6new_service.bat

    2. Copy complete path and paste in WordPad.

    3. Change the drive path according to your devsquare path inside the query.

    4. Assuming you have devsquare folder in D:drive,the the result query should be like below,

    5. Replace the query in the tomcat6new_service.bat and save the file.

    • Note:

    • If JDK is not configured to devsquare/jdk. need to provide the installed jdk path in the query. Click here to know how to do it.


    6. Make sure you have replaced only drive paths, do not add or remove any spaces in the query.

    7. Go to command and run devsquare\misc\js\tomcat6new_service.bat

    8. Run the service with admin privileges (services.msc -> tomcat -> properties: Log On the with admin access).

    9. If tomcat doesn't start,


      i. Check if IIS service is installed on the server and running, if yes stop and disable.

      ii. Check if any anti-virus restricting the tomcat run.

      iii. Check if the compatible bit version of the JDK is installed / configured (\devsquare\jdk).

      iv. Check if path is configured correctly, search and update in the \devsquare\config\*.*

      v. If any other; my computer -> right click -> manage -> event viewer -> application -> check for the errors if any.


    10. In devsquare\config\mcq folder, you can find mcq_constants.txt make sure the IP address is localhost or the IP of the server you configured.

    11. Make the changes stated in step 6 and Restart the Tomcat service from services.msc

    12. Now setup is done and can access Login page from : http://localhost/adc/mcq/admin/adminlogin.jsp

  • Administrator Login:

  • 1. Login URL : http://localhost/adc/mcq/admin/adminlogin.jsp

    2. Enter username and password and Click on login.

    In the Admin page you can able to manage the schedules of candidates and tests.
